Written for this project in response to the historical record below. It is not a historical claim and is never presented as one.
The transcript is meticulous. It records the temperature at three points in the evening, the order in which hands were joined, the exact wording of every question and a complaint about a draught. It names eleven people. The plan drawn on the facing page shows twelve chairs. The twelfth is unnumbered, drawn against the wall, and is never mentioned in the eleven pages that follow. A secretary that careful does not draw furniture that is not in the room.

Sitting reports were published by psychical research societies as data, complete with room plans, seating orders and instrument readings, and they are among the most useful sources in the archive precisely because they were written by people trying to be rigorous. Volume V leans on them heavily, which is why several of its records have no image beyond a diagram.
This record has not passed verification. Nobody has yet opened the source page, confirmed that the image, artist, year, collection and institution match it, or confirmed that the digital reproduction, not merely the underlying work, is free of restriction.
