Thesis
Everything valuable begins invisibly: belief, memory, attention, labor, fear, and desire. Markets measure the visible consequences. ENTITY collects the spirits behind them.
An archive of invisible persons is not a metaphor the project reached for. It is what the source material is. For roughly a century and a half, an enormous quantity of printing was made about things nobody could see: fluidic bodies, etheric doubles, extras standing behind a sitter, orbits with nothing in them, machines built to register the imperceptible. Most of it was wrong. Almost all of it was sincere. Every piece of it is a record of somebody spending real money and real attention on something invisible.
That is the same act a market performs, and it performs it constantly. A price is a number attached to belief, memory, attention, labour, fear and desire, none of which can be photographed. The number is visible. The thing being counted is not. What a market publishes is the consequence; what it never publishes is the cause.
ENTITY collects the causes. Eleven volumes of them, a hundred and one to a volume, each recovered from a specific printed object with a specific artist, date and holding institution, and each given an interpretation that is labelled as an interpretation on the page where it appears.
Why fact and fiction are kept apart
Because an archive that blends them is not an archive. Every record here is printed in three sections. Provenance is historical and answerable by somebody who does not trust us. Classification is ours, and says so. The Living Record is onchain state, and it changes.
No Classification value has ever been asserted as a finding about the world, and the interface does not permit one to be mistaken for one. Where the historical literature documents a fraud, and in Volume II it usually does, the fraud is on the record and not in a footnote.
Why it is on a chain
Because holding is the mechanism the thesis is about. An Entity has a Living Record that moves when somebody does something: goes to the source, corroborates it, gives it a name, places it in a House. What the chain stores is compact: a status, a level, a count, a hash. The archive stores the rest, and the hash is what ties the two together.
A Material House is where the argument becomes literal. Place an Entity in one and it draws against whatever that House holds. It is a reward, not a dividend, not a yield, and not a promise. Nothing about it is guaranteed and the archive does not describe it as an investment.
Three records the argument is built from

Deferred Year
An almanac printed with the last digit of its year left blank, so that the prophecies inside could be sold again.
