Written for this project in response to the historical record below. It is not a historical claim and is never presented as one.
The sheet was never cut into a deck. It has been folded, stored and handled as a single sheet for a hundred and seventy years, and the wear is not even: card 19 is rubbed almost blank while its neighbours are crisp. Somebody kept returning to it with a thumb. Whatever this card was going to say, it was consulted repeatedly by a person who never once shuffled it, and it answered by wearing away. The tablet it holds was blank when it was printed.

Divinatory decks of this period were mass-produced commercial print, sold with a printed key and marketed hard. Reading a specific wear pattern as intention rather than as storage damage is exactly the kind of inference this archive labels as classification and not as provenance.
