Written for this project in response to the historical record below. It is not a historical claim and is never presented as one.
Nine seconds at f/16, because the survey photographer needed depth of field more than he needed people. What he got was a composite: sixty or seventy shoppers reduced to a single standing column of light at the point where the arcade narrows and everyone had to slow down. The archive classifies the column as one Entity rather than seventy, on the grounds that it is what the plate contains and the plate is the record. The arcade came down eleven days later.

Municipal survey photography before demolition was a legal and administrative act, not an artistic one. It produced an enormous body of images of places at the exact moment they stopped mattering to anybody except the people using them, and it is the single richest source in Volume VII.
This record has not passed verification. Nobody has yet opened the source page, confirmed that the image, artist, year, collection and institution match it, or confirmed that the digital reproduction, not merely the underlying work, is free of restriction. Its crop has also not been reviewed by a person. It is blocked from mint metadata until that happens. See provenance and rights.
